Malmo vs. Atletico Madrid 0-2
Malmo took on Atletico Mardid in the return leg and lost by two goals to nil. Atletico scored the opener in the 30th minute through Koke. Atletico later doubled their lead through Garcia in the 78th minute. This took the aggregate to 0-7 against Malmo, the home side were rather unlucky even though they created lots of chances.
Juventus vs. Olympiacos 3-2
The Old ladies took on Olympiacos in a crunching encounter. Five goals were produced in that game with high attacking football. Pirlo opened the game with a goal in the 21st minute but th e goal was short lived after Bortia got the equalizer in the 24th minute. At the start of the second half things took a different turn as N'Dinga gave Olympiacos the lead in the 61st minute sending Olympiacos fans into a frenzy. However they shoot themselves in the foot when Roberto scored an own goal putting the host level pegging. Finally the winner everyone wanted in such games came from no one else but Pogba in the 66th minute to ensure Juventus backed all three points.
GROUP B
Basel vs. Ludogrets 4-0
Basel gave ludogorets a whooping four goals in their return leg taking them on to six points above Liverpool and ludogorets. Embolo gave Basel the lead in the 34th minute , Gonzalez later doubled the lead in the 41st minute. At the start of the second half two more goals were scored with Gashi in the 59th minute and Suchy in the 65th minute.This takes them to second in Group B.
Real Madrid vs. Liverpool 1-0
Liverpool travelled to the Bernabau to play Madrid, in the first leg to Reds lost by three goals. In this fixture however they lost by one goal to nil taking the aggregate to 0-4 against the Reds. The only goal of the game came in the 27th minute through Benzema ensuring Madrid beat the Reds back to back. It was a good game though but the Reds were still out classed and Madrid could have had more goals. The win enures Madrid qualifies for the round of 16 with 12 points amassed.
GROUP C
Zenit Saint Petersburg vs. Bayern Levekusen 1-2
Leaders Leverkusen travelled to face Zenit , the first half ended in a goalless with chances coming by for the home side . Both teams played some great attacking football but it was Son Heung -Min who got the opener 63rd minute for Leverkusen. He later got his brace in the 73rd minute.
Zenit pulled one back in the 89th minute through substitute Rondon. The win takes Leverkusen five points clear on top and well in for the next stage.
Benefica vs. Monaco 1-0
Amazing result for Benefica after the beat Monaco in the return leg. The only goal of the game came from Talisca in the 82nd minute. Monaco were the high pressing team in the first half with some chances but in the second half Benefica picked up the pieces and got their first win of the competition.
GROUP D
Arsenal vs. Anderlecht 3-3
Arsene Wengers men flattered to deceive in this encounter after losing a three goal lead. It kind of remindered me of Istanbul final 2005 but that was nothing to compare since it was a group stage game. Arteta put the host in the host in the in front in the 25th minute through a penalty after Welbeck was fouled in the box. Sanchez got the second in the 29th minute , later Chamberlain made it three for the away team. In the second half Arsenal took their feet of the pedal and it cost them as Borre got his brace in the 61st and 73rd minute through a penalty , the equalizer then came through Mitrovic in the 90th minute to ensure they share a point a piece.
Dortmund vs. Galatasaray 4-1
Even with Dortmunds poor run of form in the Bundesliga Klopp's team still manage play so well in the Champions League. In the first half Reus opened the score in the 39th minute In the second half Papastathopoulos doubled the lead in the 56th minute Balta then pulled one back for Galatasaray , Immobile made it three in the 74th minute and to put the game to rest Kaya scored an own goal in the 85th minute. This takes Dortmund into the round of 16 for the third time running.
GROUP E
Manchester City vs. CSKA Moscow 1-2
CSKA Moscow got of to a flying start after Doumbia put them in the lead in the 2nd minute. Manchester City got back with a brilliant free kick from Toure in the 8th minute , however Doumbia got his brace in the 34th minute. In the second half City went down to nine men after Fernadinho was sent of in the 70th minute and Toure in the 82nd minute .The game stayed that way with Moscow bagging the 3 points , this further makes things difficult for City if they are to qualify since they are still without a win.
Bayern Munich vs. As Roma 2-0
Bayern Munich beat Roma in the return fixture with goals from Ribery in the 38th minute still announcing his presence and Gotze scoring in the 64th minute to seal the deal for Bayern. Bayern now sit on top with two games to spare.
GROUP F
Paris -Saint Germain vs Apoel 1-0
Cavani scored the only goal of the game just as he did in the first leg, the goal came in the 1st minute catching the Apoel defense unawares. This ensured Paris made it to the round of 16 with two games to spare and landing the final blow on Apoel.
Ajax vs. Barcalona 0-2
Ajax took on Barcalona in a game that featured Suarez in the Champions League for the first time with Barcalona facing his formal club. The opening minutes of the game were a bit slow with few chances but nonetheless Messi scored in the 36th and 76th minutes making him equal the all time Champions League record. He was happy he had equaled it but the win that ensured they booked their place in the 1/16 brought him more joy as per Uefa.com.
GROUP G
Maribor vs Chelsea 1-1
Chelsea nearly got the scare of their lives when they nearly lost to Maribor away from home , escaping their first defeat of the season. The game really got of in the first half Ibraimi scored in the 50th minute to give the host the lead , Chelsea got the equalizer through Matic in the 73rd minute to share the spoils. There was late drama though as Handanovic saved Hazards penalty to preserve the point.
Sporting lisbon vs. Schalke 04 4-2
Sporting got of to a bad start in the game with Slimani scoring an own goal in the 17th minute, however they manage to level things up in the 26th minute before the end of the first half. In the second half Jefferson scored in the 52nd minute to give the host the lead , Nani then made it three for the host in the 72nd minute. Schalke then pulled one back through Aogo to keep up the pressure. However in the dying embers of the game Slimani got the final goal to put the game to bed. What a way to cover up for your mistake.
GROUP H
Athletic Bilbao vs FC Porto 0-2
Porto went high and might on Athletic Bilbao as they beat them by two goals to nil. Goals came in the second half with Martinez scoring in the 56th minute and Brahimi doubling it in the 73rd minute.
Martinez however missed a penalty in the 42nd minute but still covered up for that in the second half.
Bilbao are still bottom of the group after the game.
Shakhtar Donetsk vs Bate 5-0
Bate lost to Shakhtar Donetsk by five goals to nothing , in the first half Srna got the lead for the host in the 19th minute In the second half Teixeira made it two in the 48th minute. Adriano who's the leading goal scorer this season in the Champions League scored a hatrick with goals coming in the 58th minute with a penalty and later in the 83rd and 90th minute. They now have a five point cushion over Bate in Group H.
